EU CBAM Registry Now Open — SA Exporters Must Register Before First Deadline

The European Commission's CBAM Registry opened for Authorised Declarant applications in January 2026. SA exporters must ensure their EU importers have registered before the first annual CBAM declaration deadline of 31 May 2027.

The EU CBAM Registry Is Live

The EU CBAM Registry — the central platform for Authorised CBAM Declarant applications, certificate purchases, and annual declaration submissions — opened for applications in January 2026.

What the Registry Does

The registry serves four functions: (1) Declarant registration — EU importers apply for Authorised CBAM Declarant status through their national competent authority; (2) Certificate purchase — at the weekly average EU ETS auction price; (3) Annual declaration — by 31 May each year; (4) Certificate surrender — by 30 September each year.

The First Deadline: 31 May 2027

The first annual CBAM declaration covers calendar year 2026 imports and must be submitted by 31 May 2027. CBAM certificates must be surrendered by 30 September 2027.
